My Favorite Childbirth Related Scripture

My friend Joni sent me these lovely photos which brought to my mind my ultimate favorite birth related scripture found in Revelations 12:

And there appeared a great wonder in heaven;

a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head

a crown of twelve stars:

The woman in this verse, who is emitting light, and emanating love, is pregnant! She is gloriously, radiantly swathed in the wonder of God's love and protection. She is a representation of a woman, about to be delivered, who stands in faith, with charity, holiness and sobriety (1 Tim 2:15)

In my book I wrote this about a latter section of this passage from Rev. 12.

Satan wants to rob us of our Light and drown us in his iniquity. God knows this and He has placed everything here on earth that we need to conquer the evil forces against us. He has provided us wings with which to fly, by the grace of Jesus Christ who has healing in his wings (Mal. 4:2), that we may be nourished and protected for a time, and times and half a time- in this instance: pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period.

And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto earth,

he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.

And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle,

that she might fly to the wilderness, into her place,

where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time,

from the face of the serpent.

And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman,

that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.

And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth,

and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.

And the dragon was wroth with the woman,

and went to make war with the remnant of her seed,

which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

God nourishes and protects us with his love and sacred places. We in turn must nourish our children and provide them sacred places of protection and safety. As we do this, Satan becomes wroth with us and tempts us into disobedience. By retreating to our sanctuaries and receiving the mind of God, we will be blessed with His presence and enabled to do anything in righteousness.

Joni is due any day now. This beautiful woman, who is a ray of light unto all those around her and who is a loving mother, is in our prayers. May God grant her peace, protection and the birth that she desires.
